There is a substantial distinction between the number of
followers on the Patron Twitter page and the 1800 twitter page. It can be seen that the 1800 twitter page is
just starting out, having joined a full year after the Patron page in 2014. Screenshots of the two pages can be seen
below:

Over the last 25 posts, both brands have made extensive use
of the 50/50 rule, examples include:
·
Encouraging the use of Patron/Tequila in certain
lifestyle situations, such as with friends or going on vacation. The brands use
this promotion method frequently, while changing the situation. Examples below:
In terms of frequency, both brands post almost daily,
usually providing an image of their alcohol and accompanying hashtags. Over the last few months, the brands have
also made sure to tweet during popular holidays (Thanksgiving, Cinco De Mayo, etc.)
Patron in particular has recently been promoting its Art Of
Patron program, in which fans of the drink could share images of them using
Patron bottles even after finishing the drink inside. 1800, through its tweets, has been promoting
its sponsorship of music videos, such as the “Promise” song by Kid Ink.
The two most successful tweets are below:
A successful tweet by Patron was one involving Mitsuhiro Nakamura, and how he served Patron cocktails at
a party the company threw in Tokyo. This tweet garnered 50 retweets, and over 60
favourites. This post was successful
because it played on the popularity of Mitsuhiro Nakamura, as well as Patron
having a party in Tokyo, which is of itself living the lifestyle that Patron
promotes to its clients.
A successful 1800 tweet is one that made a play at its
“Silver” tequila being an award. This
tweet had 6 retweets and 3 favourites. Overall,
the difference in the two brands’ popularity on twitter can be seen. Since Patron has far more followers than
1800, their tweet had a much higher number of retweets. Furthermore, it can be seen that the Patron
brand has a greater grasp of its Twitter feed than 1800. Having only 6 retweets on 1800’s most popular
tweet definitely indicates some work has to be done in increasing their overall
Twitter engagement.
